Peter Pan Bus Lines to layoff 80 workers at Waterford

Peter Pan Bus Lines Inc. will lay off all 80 workers at its Waterford facility and close the office at the end of this month due to Foxwoods Resort Casino’s decision to end its off-site employee shuttle program.

All drivers, mechanics, and administrators at the 30 Fargo Road depot will be let go on Feb. 29, the day Foxwoods plans to terminate the shuttle service, Peter Pan spokesman Robert Schwarz said Tuesday.

Foxwoods and Peter Pan have been in talks aimed at having the Massachusetts-based bus company create a public line to replace the shuttles, most of which are run by Peter Pan. No plans have been finalized, Schwarz said Tuesday.

“That’s totally up in the air,” he said. “It’s a work in progress. We’re not sure. Foxwoods has to make up its mind.”

Peter Pan, one of the Northeast’s largest bus companies, hopes to transfer some of the Waterford workers to its Rocky Hill facility, which is the office closest to Waterford.

Bill Satti, spokesman for the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, owner of Foxwoods and MGM Grand at Foxwoods, couldn’t be reached for immediate comment Tuesday.
