Windstream Corp cuts 58 jobs at Palm Harbor

Telecom services provider Windstream Corp. is laying off 58 employees at its newly-acquired PAETEC operation in Palm Harbor as part of an ongoing consolidation.

The layoffs will occur between February and April, according to a mass layoff notice filed Friday with the state. The cuts will leave the site with about 80 workers. Their work, primarily residential service repair and provisioning, will be handled out of two other Windstream locations in Harrison, Ark., and Twinsburg, Ohio, spokesman David Avery said.

Nationwide, about 280 positions are being eliminated in the wake of Windstream's $2.3 billion acquisition of PAETEC, which closed this week.

Avery said Windstream is studying whether additional job cuts will be made this year. But he noted, "there are no plans at present to close the Palm Harbor center."
