Simpson Lumber Company cuts 19 jobs at Tacoma

The housing market hits Simpson Lumber Company.

The operation in Tacoma notified 19 workers yesterday at its Commencement Bay Sawmill that they would be laid off because of the weak demand for the dimensional lumber they produce.

Simpson’s Tideflats pulp and paper mill is unaffected by those workforce reductions. Officials say that the mill continues to operate 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
