J.C. Evans Construction Co plans to cut 300 jobs in Texas

Leander-based J.C. Evans Construction Co. Inc. plans to lay off 300 employees after its quarries could not fetch a sufficient price at auction to pay off creditors.

The layoff notification by one of Williamson County’s largest employers was filed late last month with the Texas Workforce Commission. The TWC’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining
Notification Act requires companies laying off more than 50 people to give 60 days notice to the state.

The layoffs are expected to be permanent and affect the company’s various job sites around the state and its home office in Leander, according to the letter to the TWC from J.C. Evans attorney Mark Andrews.

J.C. Evans filed for Chapter 11 protection in August, owing more than $38 million to 405 creditors.
