Warren Corp layoffs 57 workers

Warren Corp., a woolen mill in Stafford since 1853 is laying off 57 workers in early January, according to a filing with the state.

It's not known how many workers are at the Italian-owned plant, which is known for its high quality woolens and worsteds. Warren is one of the last textile mills in the state, in a town that was known for many textile mills in the 19th century.

Managers at Warren have declined requests by The Courant to talk about the business. Loro Piana, the company's owner, could not immediately be reached for comment Friday.
