TCIM Services to close call center in Tucson, 122 jobs lost

An international outsourcing and call center company is closing its Arizona operations center and cutting 122 workers.

Wilmington, Del.-based TCIM Services Inc. is closing its call center in Tucson. The company reported the layoffs to the Arizona Department of Economic Security. Some of the layoffs have occurred, with the rest happening by the end of the month, according a TCIM employee.

The employee, who asked not to be identified, said work volume for the Arizona center had decreased, precipitating the closure. The person said they were not aware of any other facility closures by TCIM.

TCIM officials at the company’s Delaware headquarters did not respond to a request for comment.
The company has call centers and back-office operations centers in Tulsa, Norman and Oklahoma City, Okla.; Paris and Longview, Texas; and the Philippines.

TCIM provides customer service, sales and business processing operations as well as bilingual services to companies outsourcing those operations. Companies with large layoffs are required to report job cuts that could impact the state under federal law.

Both Phoenix and Tucson are large back-office and call center markets. In recent years, they’ve faced competition from foreign centers in India and the Philippines and more recently the economic troubles have reduced demand for their services.
