Ovonics Energy Products cuts 77 jobs at Springboro facility

A Springboro facility will lay off 77 workers early next year, possibly permanently.

Ovonics Energy Products informed the state of Ohio late last week that it will lay off the workers during the first two weeks of March 2012.

The company said the layoffs will last at least six months, if not permanently. The layoffs will also affect the callback rights of nearly 100 previously laid-off workers, the company said.

The company, which produces rechargeable batteries, is in the process of changing its production line from one type of battery to another. Only about 20 workers remain on the job at this point.
